THIS IS NOT A JOURNAL FOR RANDOM-ADD. If you are here to randomly friend me, forget it. If your profile or journal is empty or I see nothing that indicates that you are interested in baseball or know me in real life, I'm not adding you here.
Some other things you should know about this journal before deciding to friend it...
FIRST OF ALL; most of the photos that are posted on this site are nabbed from a website called Daylife.com (anything else is either Google Images or off my actual camera). It is an AP newswire site, and the photos are fair use. They have some wonderful, wonderful sports action photography there - just do a search for whatever team you're interested in. This journal is also not affiliated with the Seattle Mariners, their players, or Safeco Field. The opinions expressed here are mine and mine alone. I don't know if it's necessary to put that here, but I'm going to anyway.
I am NOT an expert on baseball. At all. I am merely a person who enjoys the game, and my fanaticism and enjoyment of writing has prompted me to blog about something I love.
I hate numbers, so you won't find any stats here, for the most part. I choose to base my enjoyment of the game on what I witness firsthand, not on what someone's ERA or OBP might be. I know what these things are, but I choose not to follow them, because then it becomes more like homework and less like a game. Things that interest me may not be for everyone, so if you read something about how well a player did that you don't like, frankly, I do not care. There are times when I will use stats (usually ERA) as an indicator of how well I think we will do in a future game, but I will not argue about it with anyone.
Yes, I know that the 2008 Mariners team is horrible. I'm not an idiot, I know we suck this year, and I know that the team has let a lot of people down, me included. I still love them, and very little will stop me.
Now that that is out of the way...
I went to my first Mariners (and my first major league) game back in 2004, I want to say. Some friends had gotten tickets in the upper deck through work, and for some reason, decided to invite me. I had a good time, with my basic understanding of baseball (you hit the ball and run around the bases, and sometimes other stuff happens), but didn't think there would be a repeat visit. In 2005, I just decided one day that I should go to a game because I COULD, and then the frequency of my visits to Safeco Field began to increase, until last year, when I was going as often as I could afford it or as often as friends invited me. For my birthday November 2007, a group of friends got together with my husband and decided to buy me the Best. Present. EVER; a 16-game plan for the 2008 season. I chose section 331 so that I could see everything. I paid attention to the trades and actions taken during the off-season, eagerly awaited the televised Cactus League games, and kept my fingers crossed for this or that player to make the team. I went to FanFest with some friends, and got tickets for Opening Day, and anticipated the season with the same excitement that everyone else did. I have watched pretty much every game when time and physical location have allowed, either in person or via TV/radio, and have become quite a fan of the sport in general, even to the point of watching -dare I say it- Yankees games when Ms games are not on. So there - now you know. :) Go, Mariners!
